NCSE's New Green Economy Conference Hits Home on Key Issues
Action-Oriented Discussion is Breath of Fresh Air
Washington, DC January 20-22, 2010 - After a whirlwind of Copenhagen promises, the need for a domestic green economy action-plan is the focus of discussion at The National Council for Science and the Environment's (NCSE's) 10th annual conference.
"For green buzz to shift into green implementation, business, government, nonprofit, and education sectors must work together like never before,” says Charles Holiday, former Chairman and CEO of DuPont. “The environmental challenges we now face are unprecedented, thus their solutions must be bold and swift.”
“Education, from early learning through college, is America's foundational investment in the future of our nation's prosperity. The seeds of sustainable social and economic transformation will take root in education,” adds Martha Kanter, Under Secretary for the US Department of Education.
Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University and recently listed by Time Magazine amongst the “Top 10 Best University Presidents,” commented that, “if nothing else, the lack of progress in Copenhagen demonstrated that America must serve as an example for the rest of the world that the business-as-usual approach to creating and applying knowledge is insufficient for meeting the environmental challenges we face today.”
President of Second Nature and leader of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, Anthony Cortese, gives credit by saying, “I applaud NCSE for the timeliness of this meeting following at the heels of Copenhagen. Its time for action to create a sustainable economy and avoid unmanageable climate disruption.”
NCSE's Executive Director, and host of the New Green Economy Conference, Peter Saundry says, “We are honored to set the stage for the luminaries of these four sectors to form solutions, based in sound science, for the overarching goal of the sustainability of our planet. NCSE is committed to creating a cross-sectoral understanding and to accelerating the progress of such pertinent objectives.”
About NCSE
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) continues to work to improve the scientific basis of environmental decisionmaking. We envision a society where environmental decisions are based on an accurate understanding of the underlying science, its meaning and limitations, and the potential consequences of their action or inaction.
