2012 University-Federal Dialogue
University-Federal Dialogue on Energy Research and Education & Congressional Visit Day
May 7-8, 2012

This exclusive two-day event was designed to maximize personal exchange between attendees and key leaders of energy research, development and education programs within the Federal government.
The Dialogue on May 7th provided leading energy administrators and faculty members, vice-presidents for research, federal affairs officers and others with direct and personal access to the leaders of the federal programs that fund energy research, development and education. Following a keynote address by Dr. Daniel Cassidy, Senior Advisor for the Office of the Chief Scientist, USDA, federal officials of programs that fund energy research and education particpiated in head-to-head conversations with individuals and small groups of energy leaders from a number of academic institutions. This flexible format allowed each attendee to customize his or her experience and talk with leaders of the programs of most interest. Dr. Tim Killeen, Assistant Director for Geosciences at the National Science Foundation, proceeded to talk about NSF's Science, Engineering and Education (SEES) Initiative.
In addition, Capitol Hill veterans briefed attendees about how to make their case effectively during Congressional visits the following day. Given the budget-cutting mood on Capitol Hill that is targeting programs of energy research and development critical to our national future, it behooves us to make the case for investment in the foundations of a new energy economy.
